Early death of Russian composer
RIPFriends have reported the sudden passing of Pavel (Pasha) Karmanov, an eclectic Moscow composer who also played in a rock group. The group’s name, Vezhlivy Otkaz, means polite refusal, signifying mild dissent.
Pasha was 55. He had a concert scheduled for December 9.
His compositions were performed by, among others, Alexei Lyubimov, Yuri Bashmet, Tatiana Grindenko, Vadim Kholodenko and Polina Osetinskaya.
That is very sad. His YouTube channel was one of my earliest subscriptions, and he had been posting performances of his interesting music there since 2007.
Did he fall off a balcony, by any chance?
He died of heart failure
As do we all.
deep dude, deep
Pavel was one of the second generation Russian post-minimalist composers, along with Sergei Zagny and Anton Batagov. Check out his (slightly tongue-in-cheek) homage to Steve Reich: ‘Different Rains’… he was a talented composer and a generous human being. RIP, Pasha!
Hopefully he didn’t fall out of a high building.
