The French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin has expressed concern about security arrangements for the 2024 Olympic Games.

He told the Senate that an average of 30,000 police and gendarmes will be required each day in Paris for the duration of the Games.

This may require postponement of other public events, including arts festivals, he warned.

Darmanin was heavily criticised for the chaos and brutal policing of the UEFA Champions League final between Real Madrid and Liverpool at the Stade de France, one of the main venues for the Games.

Deeply unfair. We classical music hooligans will not be able to crusch some snail-eater skulls after the concerts. France is not that funny any more. 🙂

  • Dave says:

Presumably M. Darmanin’s figure is based on the expectation that events will be policed as badly and brutally as the Champions League final.

I thought there was a tradition of mounting an arts festival before an Olympic Games. The City of Birmingham Symphony Chorus travelled half way round the globe in 2000 to take part in Mahler’s Eighth in the newly-built Olympic indoor arena.

The cultural olympics are mandatory and were by a long distance (pun intended) the best part of London 2012. Outdoor and site-specific dance performances from many cultures took place unpoliced all over London in the summers of 2010 and 2011, as practice events, as well as in 2012. Probably it’s a more dangerous world now but the french minister is more likely just trying to blag more funds for his dept.

    Merde!!

It’s time to get rid of the Olympics altogether. (Where is Emperor Theodosius when we really need him? Emperor Theodosius abolished the ancient Olympic Games in 394 C.E.). Maybe they were a good idea once, but they have become a swamp of commercialism, national chauvinism, and drug cheating. They are also far too expensive to stage and have far too many minor sports, e.g., rhythmic gymnastics.

It’s crucial to approach the casino game holistically and not assume that finding a nice venue to play is all there is to it. Finding the appropriate slots is also crucial; for instance, you should know which slots developer is perfect for you. For instance, I did that after reading a review of one of them at https://pokiesman.com/playtech/ . When I learned what kinds of slots they offer, I immediately realized that this is exactly what I’ve been looking for. I hope each of you found it useful.
