The Shipping Forecast joins a classical agency
mainThe chap who reads the BBC’s Shipping Forecast has signed on to Editions Peters, looking for concert engagements.
He’s from Lowestoft, like Britten, and plays the piano a bit but it’s voice work he’s after.
Zeb Soanes, 44, specialises in Façade, Noye’s Fludde, Peter and the Wolf and suchlike.
Wonder how he’d get on in A Survivor from Warsaw.
Zebedee Sones is The Best Voice on any radio network and is also a superb broadcaster – streets ahead of most others on Radios 3 and 4 – and has been for many many years. It is a complete mystery to me as to why the BBC hasn’t made much more prominent use of him – especially in the field of Music…
I bet he’d do a cracking ‘Survivor’. Likewise (if he hasn’t already) ‘Lincoln Portrait’ and ‘Practical Cats’.
(Zeb, Zeb: has the BBC booked you yet to give Neil Nunes another session of remedials? The first two are distinctly beginning to wear off…)
I could listen to Zeb Soanes all day! Best wishes to him!
He’ll join TV personality Elin Manahan Thomas (she of Royal Wedding fame) on the Ikon Arts / EPAM list, in good company then.
Not to mention Zeb’s wonderful Gaspard the Fox books, one of which has been turned into a sublime work by Jonathan Dove and premiered in Scotland recently. Multi talented is this man.
“What time is dinner, Mrs. Bale?”
“Dinner will be served in seventeen minutes, and the weather in the channel today is choppy, with wind coming from the north at five knots.”
Zeb is a brilliant musician, a fantastic children’s author, and a wonderful man. Pretty sure he’d give good Schoenberg (it’s easier than Façade!). I wrote a piece for him a few years ago in which he also had to sing, and (unsurprisingly) he’s got a lovely singing voice too.
