Death of a premier Poulenc soprano, 95
mainThe death is reported of Geneviève Moizan, a French soprano who sang from 1949 to 1968 at the Opéra de Paris and performed in the world premiere of Francis Poulenc’s Stabat Mater.
She was a notable Marguerite in Gounod’s Faust, and was popular in many other leading roles in Paris and around the Francophone opera world.
Sa voix enregistrée dans l´ opera de Thomas – Mignon – (édition Preiser ou Cantus Classics) et dans l´ opérette La Mascotte de Audran.
She’s also an unforgettable Jocaste in Enescu’s Oedipe in the must listen Charles Bruck live recording.
A rich soprano with a mezzo timbre. She was a true French artist in her repertoire. Merci.
More than just a fine voice , what is really striking here is Genevieve Moizan’s power of expression and the way she makes every word count. It is indeed a lovely account of perhaps Berlioz’s most beautiful aria.
