A principal viola has died, aged 51
mainScott Michael Ligocki played principal viola with Pacific Northwest Ballet in Seattle. He also performed with the Seattle Symphony, Seattle Opera and many other ensembles.
A Curtis graduate, he is survived by his parents and sister, to whom we send condolences.
Scott graduated from Curtis in 1989 and was a student of Michael Tree and the late Karen Tuttle. I remember him well and believe he went with the Curtis Orchestra to Evian (les Rencontres Musicales d’Evian) in May 1989 when Slava was the Musical Director. Requiescat in pace.
What a shame. I’ve known Scott (more off than one) for over 30 years. Terrific violist, very nice guy. We played the Beethoven Septet one summer that remains a cherished memory of my musical youth.
