Marsha Mehren life was bursting with the gratifying treasures of humankind, with food and music, love and literature–physical and ephemeral treasures–and ending, sorrowfully, by the edge of the cold northern Atlantic, alone and abandoned. Thank you for sharing this story, that we may mourn her, and through her life, mourn the tragedy of human cruelty and indifference.
I’d be curious to know what the visa violation was that seems to have precipitated the downward spiral.
So would I. She was young, and her family had been accepted, so it seems very mysterious. And I agree it seems to have triggered a tragic rather than a triumphal ending. I would characterise the late Ms. Mehran more as an author than a pianist, and it is the planned series of seven books that I will miss, though I intend to take a look at what she did manage to leave behind.
Thank you for drawing our attention to this sad tale, and introducing to me a talent I had not encountered.
