What shall I wear? A concertmaster recommends…
mainOur friend Holly Mulcahy, concertmaster at Chattanooga Symphony and Opera, has some useful tips for concertgoers.
Sample:
Afternoon Matinee Concert
Women: Pants are fine. Jeans are fine, just bump it up a notch. If you wear jeans, wear a dressier top, wear fancier shoes, and add an interesting piece of jewelry. Dresses and skirts are fine, but keep the sparkles for the evening concerts.
Men: Slacks or jeans with a button down shirt.
More here.
What a dumb and useless article. Go to a concert to HEAR music, not to dress a “recommended” way.
Well that’s not very nice. Self-righteous comments like this don’t help anyone.
Many people who are not regular concert-goers actually want to know how to present themselves at a classical music concert. We want MORE people to come hear our music. So why not address this to alleviate one of the MANY insecurities people have about attending? And these insecurities are just perpetuated by comments like this one from Eli Bensky.
Thanks for the post, Holly.
Ditto what Mr. Munoz said and kudos to him for stepping up.
