I commented that the theatre was mired in administrative difficulties in your last post.
This theatre needs new direction – and quick.
No need to get worked up.
The ‘warning strikes’ are part of a large implementation of industrial action by the trade union Ver .de.
It is happening across Germany and effecting many public worker institutions. 6% is wanted, which realistically means 3 and they will probably be offered 2.
I attended the opening night of SEMELE on Friday 17th, the very evening the trade union and the govermental institutions in Germany reached their agreement. The moment the opera was about to begin it was still uncertainif the union ver.di will call its members to an strike. However, I felt that there is a great cooperation between the theatre’s management and the unions/staff council as all of them decided together that the union staff will give a speach before the curtain is rising up instead of striking. This is far away from administrative difficulties! A great example !
actually many of us are money-stripped every now and then …. the only question can be raised – are they going to stage Lucrezia Borgia on incest or Macbeth with witches -paedophiles or what ? …. almost kidding….
I mean cash strapped 😉
There were strikes all over Germany for some days as the union ver.di asked for 6% wage increase for employees in the public sector. Late on 17th of Februray the parties (state government and ver.di) agreed to 2% in 2017 and 2.35% in 2018 – and this marked the end of any strike.
