A true and rare gentleman in every sense of the word.

Fred was always friendly & gentle. In 1982 I went to study in Germany, on the cello a bridge of Fred. I since met many star-luthiers, recommending me to replace the bridge and soundpost. I did so, spent hundreds of Guilders, Deutsch Marks and French Francs, trying several alternatives.
After 10 years I returned to the old bridges, not complete straight anymore, and admittedly not the most elegant model, but just the best sounding. Today it is still there on the instrument, the very same bridge and soundpost after 35 years. The others as souvenirs in a box. R.I.P. Fred!
