Exclusive: Kurtag writes a piece in Ligeti’s memory
NewsWe hear from Budapest that the venerable composer György Kurtag has written a new piece to commemorate the centenary of the birth of his late friend György Ligeti.
It will be premiered on May 28th, shortly after Kurtag presides over the renaming of a street adjacent the the Budapest Music Centre. The present István Street ) will be known in future as Ligeti Street.

How gratifying to see Ligeti honored on his centenary with both a new Kurtag work and the street renaming! His centenary should see many performances of his works across the globe.
Frankfurt Radio Symphony live-streamed a brilliant all-Ligeti concert on 30 March, which included their director Altinoglu on the organ playing part of Volumina. I hope it will eventually find its way to YouTube.
