The French Ministry of Culture has shelled out an extra two million Euros to cover ‘exceptional energy costs’ at the Opéra de Paris, according to the latest budget figures.

That’s on top of 5 million last year for post-Covid losses.

The Opéra de Paris receives 99.7 million euros from the Government in operating subsidy.

That is two and a half times as much as Covent Garden and English National Opera put together.

Meanwhile, in London, Arts Council England is sticking to its opera cuts.
