British conductor quits Berlin
NewsIt was confirmed today that Robin Ticciati will be leaving the Deutsche Symphonie-Orchester Berlin two years earlier than planned in summer 2025. They will have enjoyed eight mutually formative years.
Ticciati, 40 this month, has also been music director of Glyndebourne Festival Opera since 2014.

Was there trouble? I’m not really familiar with him outside of the excellent Brahms set he made with SCO.

Hopefully he will be replaced by a female. And his Glyndebourne position should be rescinded and given to a woman as well. Justice at last?!

Though, I also think Ticciati is a musical genius, curious what he’ll be up to next?

Dear slipperdisc fellow readers, try to watch his interesting Alpine symphony documentary, well the alpinist who co stars is certainly more charismatic than Ticciati and Karajan has been much bolder in his scenic orchestral arrangements in the 70s, but at least, he tried something…. Fascinating generation of gifted conductors, but forgettable and interchangeable ….

Fascinating how good technician they are but how their print is light. Maybe a question of general culture, not enough reading or listening to other conductor…When i go to a concert, i hardly never think that only this specific conductor could have achieved this interpretation …. maybe the orchestras got better technically and loose their sonic identity and personality ( Czech philarmonic…). Rare are the conductors taking risks and this contagious Mahler disease ( he s the new Beethoven in the concert hall…) makes them interchangeable….i don’t know, just trying to find out why listening to a good cd is more exciting than going to concert…
Because you can pause, go to the restroom, and swing by the kitchen on the way back. You also don’t have to drive, pay for parking, or sit next to annoying people who talk during the music, and then decide to eat a sandwich. You can also listen to the best orchestras and best musicians at a touch of finger. What’s not to love?
Ticciati is 40. I thought, hmm, pretty good for his age! Then I remembered that Sokhiev and Yamada are 45 and 44 respectively. You could count Nelsons too, 44. Oh well, guess not everybody is destined for greatness…
