The London Symphony Orchestra has added Francis Poulenc’s Figure humaine with the BBC Singers to its upcoming concert of Mahler’s seventh symphony.

The reason?

‘The BBC Singers will be appearing at the invitation of Sir Simon Rattle and the LSO, in a mark of solidarity with the choir and the broader music community, in response to uncertainty over future funding to the orchestral and choral sector in the UK.’

Nice.

Comments

  • Len Ratzlaff says:

Outstanding gesture; one of the great 20th C works for unaccompanied chorus, and the BBC Singers will ace this.

  • Paul Carlile says:

Wonderful! A perfect piece in duration and gravitas to make a perfect programme; wish i could be there. A generous gesture. Bravo!

  • Dan says:

    Fantastic

  • Rob Keeley says:

    ‘Liberté, j’écris ton nom…’

  • Corno di Caccia says:

A great and generous gesture from the LSO and Sir Simon. It is a huge pity that we are to lose this conductor from our shores, quite probably for ever. Shame on this disgraceful Tory Government and the evil Auntie.

  • Anon says:

Rattle being political again, despite being a German citizen. And that’s why he can get away with it! The LSO never refuses his demands.

  • Mark Mortimer says:

Why should Rattle care- he’s a multi millionaire conductor. Yet another ‘political’ gesture from him, giving the impression he actually cares about less fortunate musicians.
