Message from the Théatre de Champs-Elysées:

Nous avons appris tard hier au soir que Matthias Goerne, souffrant, ne serait pas en mesure de vous retrouver ce soir.

La mezzo-soprano Marina Viotti, sœur de Lorenzo Viotti, chef du Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra interprétera les Rückert-Lieder de Mahler.

La complicité entre frère et sœur offrira à ces Lieder une couleur singulière et rare.

En anglais:
We learned late last night that Matthias Goerne, ill, would not be able to meet you this evening.

Mezzo-soprano Marina Viotti, sister of Lorenzo Viotti, conductor of the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra will perform Mahler’s Rückert-Lieder.

The complicity between brother and sister will give these Lieder a singular and rare color.

Also in today’s cancellations:

“Per motivi personali il previsto vincitore del Concorso Van Cliburn 2022, Yunchan Lim, non potrà partecipare ai concerti con l’Orchestra I Pomeriggi Musicali previsti per i giorni 26 e 28 gennaio 2023. Sarà sostituito da Filippo Gorini.

The announced winner of the Van Cliburn Competition 2022, Yunchan Lim, will not be able to participate in the concerts with Orchestra I Pomeriggi Musicali scheduled for 26 and 28 January 2023 for personal reasons. He will be replaced by Filippo Gorini.”

Go figure.

UPDATE: Last night, Marin Alsop was replaced at the last minute in Paris by Kirill Karabits.

Not surprised. Paris is, to put it mildly, chaotic.

  • Micaela Bonetti says:

    Filippo Gorini, bravo.
    Complimenti!

  • J Higgins says:

Marina Viotti is a fine singer in her own right.
That said, I cannot be the only one wishing for her to make her own way in this industry, rather than hanging off the coattails of her brother. This sort of situation gets stale fast, and in the long run I do not actually believe it will benefit her.

  • Antwerp Smerle says:

I’m gutted. When I saw the video of Marin Alsopp moved to tears by Yunchan Lim’s playing of Rach 3, I went to Bachtrack to see if he was playing any concerts in Europe. I found one in Milan this week and suggested to a friend who lives there that we should go. I’m booked to fly from Gatwick to Milan today.

I wonder what were his “personal reasons”? Is it too cynical to suggest that his agent thought that I Pomeriggi Musicali isn’t a sufficiently prestigious orchestra for the Italian debut of his – now hugely lucrative – signing?
