A leading music dresswear firm which supplied concert wear to soloists, orchestras and choirs has announced it will close this month due to the impact of Brexit on the music industry.

Black Dress Code writes: ‘it is impossible to grow a business with the effects of Brexit both on the UK music industry and on the ability of UK companies to grow their exports within Europe, our closest trading partners. After serious consideration and with much sadness, we have therefore decided to close.’

Daniella Gluck is offering the company’s entire stock at 70% discount until January 22.

Very sad news and reminds us of the impact of Brexit on the wider community serving musicians in the UK. Always a fine service from Black Dress Code. Wishing Daniella and Jo all the best.

    • Clare says:

Does that ‘wider community’ include tradesmen whose income hit rock bottom but is now, following Brexit, thankfully recovering?

Perhaps they should have switched to work wear for plumbers, plasterers, painters and bricklayers. That’s where the money is now.

      • MJA says:

        Says it all, really.

      • Sue Sonata Form says:

What you say is true, but I don’t think concert apparel is quite the same as ‘workwear” – for which there would already be many outlets. But, yes, there have been winners and losers, it appears.

I’m sorry that these people have lost their business; this is always a very bad day.

      • Joe says:

You mean that people who use this site are now having to pay more for the services of tradesmen – the sort who get their hands dirty?

        Truly shocking.

      • David says:

What are you talking about. UK is struggling with shortage of skilled and unskilled tradesmen. It is definitely not where the money is at. Even if it were, do you think it’s so easy to switch from one company to another?? I don’t see you making the same argument for the oil industry to switch to clean energy, just like that! But you should, according to your “logic”.
