John was such an exceptional lecturer and tutor, and I think knew more about Richard Wagner than anyone I’ve known. Everything was delivered with such a wicked sense of humour and wit.
I feel very lucky to have gotten to know him during my college years, and to have had his support and counsel as my dissertation supervisor.
My thoughts are with Ben and his family, friends and colleagues at such a difficult time. RIP.
I worked with John many times when he was in Northampton. He was a popular chorus master and conductor for the sadly now defunct Central Festival Opera. Happy memories of concerts and performances under his baton.
