The  Metropolitan Opera, its website wiped  out for  a fifth  consecutive day by a massive cyber  attack, has arrennged to sell tickets through  the Lincoln Center box-office, some  at deep discount.

The current statement reads: ‘We are grateful to our friends at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts who have allowed us to continue to offer tickets to select upcoming performances through their website. Tickets are general admission and priced at $50 each. Seating will be in the orchestra section of the opera house, and locations will be assigned by Met ushers on a first-come, first-served basis immediately prior to curtain.’

There is no sign yet frm the Met when service will be resumed on its own site.

There is no progress, either, in repairinng the attack on Vienna’s Musikverein.

Both institutions are suffering grievous financial loss.

I don’t know how many tickets they sold through Lincoln Center, but when I checked on the first day this was announced, there were no tickets available for the performances listed. Maybe I missed it, but I suspect they put very few tickets for sale.

The DNS for metopera.org shows an ip address:

    metopera.org. 60 IN A 69.18.205.90

https://www.iplocation.net/ip-lookup shows that address is controlled by Ricoh-Usa:

    https://www.ricoh-usa.com/en/about-us/who-we-are

And when the support call was placed I imagine Ricoh said: “I am mostly apologizing, but this contract does not include DDoS protection”

Maybe Peter G will think twice next time he cozies up to a Russian tart with close ties to a dictator.

    How is attendance?

    The Met is too big.

What does that even mean in the context of a cyber attack? Do you also yell at the moon?

I am certainly no fan of PG, but I do have compassion for the Met in this particular instance.

  • JC says:

I bought a subscription through the Met website. I guess this means that all my information and credit card number has been made available to the hackers as well? I highly doubt that the Met will admit to that, although at the moment they sure to have a big problem on their hands……How is the staff getting paid at this point?

And not one mention in the US news. Not even the NY Times.
