The Vancouver Symphony has announced the death of Beth Orson, English horn and Assistant Principal Oboe since 1989.

Beth was an empathetic teacher who taught two generations at national level to play Dvorak’s New World solo and so much else.

    It’s a shame that the cor anglais is still so rare in a symphonic and chamber environment- it’s such an amazing instrument, with such a live and deep color. As a composer, i intend to compose more for it. RIP Beth.

    This is so sad. I was on 9 tours of Japan with Beth and she couldn’t have been a nicer and more supportive person!

    Beth was an amazing musician and oboist/EHornist as well as a generous, charming person. She will be greatly missed.
