These are Ludwig’s loving varations on his idol Handel’s best tune from Judas Maccabeus.

And Paul Tortelier was the first cellist I ever heard play them.

    There is a fine recording of these variations by Yo-Yo Ma and Emanuel Ax. Is there a shorter name for a concert duo than “Ma & Ax” ?
