The city of Vienna has allocated 20 million Euros to a bicentenary 2025 festival of the music of the younger Johann Strauss.

There’s not much more to say, except that former Theater-an-der-Wien director Roland Geyer has been engaged as artistic director.

‘Und so the message of joie de vivre from Johann Strauss junior will reach the Viennese populace and radiate out into the world,’ rejoiced City Culture Councillor Veronica Kaup-Hasler.

Who knew waltzes need subsidy?

  • Barry Guerrero says:

Considering that Strauss waltzes and polkas helped to bring plenty of tourist money to Vienna and greater Austria, perhaps this is not such an extravagant affair.

  • Jobim75 says:

Some makes the choice to preserve and defend their cultural heritage, some other will ignore or even destroy it…..

  • Greg Bottini says:

Much better to spend the money for the Strauss Jr. bicentennial than for weapons of war.
