The Hamburg Symphony Orchestra has recruited the South Korean cellist and conductor Han-Na Chang as principal guest conductor.

After a short, hot spell at the failed Qatar Philharmonic, she is presently music director in Trondheim, Norway.

  • Tony Sanderson says:

Han-Na Chang resigned from the Qatar Philarmonic in 2014 having just conducted at the BBC Proms in 2014, whilst in Europe. Visa problems amongst artistic and administrative issues were cited.

It looks like she wasn’t too keen to return to Qatar.

  • MacroV says:

Pretty remarkable how she seemingly gave up an A-list solo cello career to work her way up the conducting ranks.

    • Horst Wangler says:

I had a look just now…they don’t seem to be following her too much (she is hardly alone in that!). She seems genuine though.

    • Karl says:

I agree. And I could never see her potential as a conductor. I wish her success at Hamburg Symphony.
