Elbphilharmonie concert is taken over by climate activists
NewsTwo members of Germany’s Last generation group invaded the podium in Hamburg’s concert hall on Wednesday night during a concert of the Staatskaplle Dresden.
Clinging to the rail – though not glueing herself to it – a young woman, identified as Marlene Limburg, declaimed: ‘Just as there is only one Beethoven violin concerto, we only have this one planet whose borders we neglect so much that climate-related disasters are becoming more frequent and deadly.’
The protestors were removed without force and the concert continued with Beethoven and Brahms. The soloist was Julia Fischer, the conductor Tugan Sokhiev.
A video was later posted on Twitter. ‘Wir missachten die Grenzen des Planeten so stark, dass es bald kein Zurück mehr geben wird.’
The venue was well-chosen. If sea waters continue to rise, the Elbphilharmonie will be the first concert hall to be washed away.

First I thought that the demonstration was for arguiing against the sound quality of the concert hall ahahahahah I’am jocking.
The protest talk was heard only in the front side.
We are kinding but… I have heared on internet two concert of the RCO on tour there. Twice the sound was very bad. It’s maybe the sound engineer but…I ‘am not sure. And I heard three concerts also of the RCO in Berlin, Bucarest and in the new concert hall of Bupadest and there it was excellent. I don’t know if the EP will be a kind of new Sydney Opera…
No it’s just that concertgebouw is a grossly overrated orchestra, and the moment it leaves the surreal acoustic of its home hall, the fraud is revealed
A point of view from someone who didn’t hear live the orchestra ahahaha i was sure that someone will respond that.
I have heard the Concertgebouw live – in Vienna and in its home venue. That year I had the opportunity (in Vienna) to compare a large number of world class orchestras and I can assure you the Concertgebouw was right up there with the very best. It was still excellent when I last heard it 7 years ago.
I seriously doubt it has gone downhill since then, by all accounts.
Not true. On the evidence of live streams, they sound better in the Berliner Philharmonie than Berlin Philharmonic, when presumably they are both recorded by the same team. At the Carnegie Hall they also sound fine when compared against other orchestras playing and recorded there. All my opinions, of course.
It takes a while to figure out how to record in a new hall. The recorded sound coming out of Elbphilharmonie has definitely improved over the years. Orchestras adjusting their playing to the new space over time also plays a role.
Having heard the RCO in Carnegie Hall in many different years, I call BS on your “fraud” statement. They are truly wonderful.

They are very likely to become the last generation, especially if they follow their preaching and decline to reproduce.
Selection will always favor the selfish reproducer who accumulates resources around himself, sowing his devilish seed into a cultural vacuum created by his own brood.

Friends were in this concert. The misguided individuals had glued themselves to the railing on the conductor platform. There was loud booing and jeering from the audience at the nut protesters. Then stage hands quickly emerged, unscrewed the railing from the conductor’s platform, and trotted it and the petty criminals away so that the concert could continue.
Will the Elbphilharmonie be washed away sooner than the houses in Martha’s Vineyard that are owned by Obama and John Kerry?
These are the true heroes of their generation. Orchestras waste the world’s valuable energy and resources on an art form enjoyed and understood by only the wealthiest nations. It’s far past time to disband these wantonly wasteful organizations and redistribute their wealth to more deserving human endeavors in the name of fairness and equanimity.
