The Berliner Philharmoniker’s New Year’s Eve Gala with chief conductor Kirill Petrenko and star tenor Jonas Kaufmann will be broadcast live from the Philharmonie Berlin in more than 285 European cinemas…

In their traditional New Year’s Eve Concert, the Berliner Philharmoniker will this time bring the year to a close with lively, dramatic Italian flair: under the direction of their chief conductor Kirill Petrenko, they will present a multifaceted programme of great Italian opera with famous opera arias by Giuseppe Verdi and Pietro Mascagni, among others, with star tenor Jonas Kaufmann. They will also perform excerpts from Nino Rota’s moving film score to Federico Fellini’s La strada and Sergei Prokofiev’s expressive musical interpretation of Romeo and Juliet, plus Tchaikovsky’s sumptuous take on Italy in his Capriccio italien. The concert, which as every year has been sold out for a long time, can still be enjoyed live in around 280 cinemas in Europe from 16:00 GMT on Saturday, 31 December.

  • Concertgebouw79 says:

A programm and a show more interisting than the one in Vienna the 1th. But the concert I realy want to watch is the chirstmas afteroon concert of the Concertgebouw with Chung and Mahler 5th. I hope that outside of the dutch national tv we will have have the opportunity to watch it. This programm should be and must be brodcasted in France, Austria and Germany on Arte. They all have to make an effort for that.

  • Joel Kemelhor says:

The Zandonai aria for Romeo has been done well by Kaufmann in the past. The role was created by the tenor Miguel Fleta, who was also the first Calaf in TURANDOT.

It should be “Turiddu” not “Turrido” for the Mascagni.

  • Santuzza says:

Who’s responsible for the spelling? It’s none other than Turiddu who sings “Mamma, quel vino è generoso”. He may be hot, but not Turrido.

  • Fritz Grantler says:

Kaufmann…It is time to retire…Perhaps you can do a farewell tour with Domingo ….
