This is where the Putin winter kicks in.

The Mannheim Philharmonic has just told us it is ‘redimensioning’ its season due to higher energy costs and inflation.

The statement:

In English:
As a result of increased operating costs caused by the energy crisis and high inflation, the Mannheim Philharmonic unfortunately feels compelled to shorten its current 2022/23 season by two concerts. The events with the pianist Plamena Mangova on October 24, 2022 and with the cellist Kyril Zlotnikov on November 20, 2022 are affected (meaning: cancelled).

As a result, the orchestra’s season opener has been postponed to December 22, 2022, when the legendary pianist Martha Argerich will perform with the Philharmoniker for the second time. All other concert dates … remain unaffected by the changes. Look forward to concerts with baritone Michael Volle, star cellist Mischa Maisky, violinist of the century Pinchas Zukerman and iconic piano magician Maria João Pires.

I mean, we’ve managed to decode the genome of Neanderthals, but we still don’t know how to survive the northern winter without depleting non-renewable resources.

    Rather Homo sine futuro.

    • Hayne says:

“And the entire parade of hirelings, dupes and knaves, fools, fakes and frauds is led by the German Greens, whose leadership features the worst characters ever in post WWII Germany to reach the political top. They are the most ignorant and the least accomplished, and yet at the same time the most self-assured, fanatic and megalomanic people ever, and hence: the most dangerous people.

Thus, Germany is led by people intent upon putting their country on a course of de-industrialization and into an intellectual stone-age, however a politically correct, climate-, race-, ethnicity- and gender-neutral new age, a world a la John Lennon, with no country, no religion and no possessions.

And these creatures are considered the most popular political leaders by the majority of the German public.

What can you say to all this? I, for one, can only weep.”

      Hans-Hermann Hoppe

      • Sue Sonata Form says:

What you say is all true. It’s important to remember that politicians reflect the society from which they’re drawn. Churchill alluded to this in his biting commentary about democracy; that it’s the worst form of government except for all the others!

What is happening is testament to the fact that fanatic evangelism is, in fact, just another form of religious extremism.

      • soavemusica says:

Still, democracy is always right: the people always get the rulers they deserve.

Is Hans-Hermann Hoppe still walking free in Deutschland? One would expect the wrongly opinionated to see die Polizei at the door. “Meine Liebe ist grün”…

No worries for failed politicians and their faithful voters, there is a Green Card available: Putin is bad, energy policies of Europe 100 % virtuous. So, that explains the tripled bill?

A question: In recent years, has the EU lead by Germany solved, or at least handled, any major crisis satisfactorily?

    • Hayne says:

I am well aware of Hoppe’s comments on other subjects, especially gays. Needless to say, he has caused a lot of controversy among libertarians. This quote of his stands on its own, however.

      • Hugo Preuß says:

Oh, but you forget that he is also in favor of discrimination against women, openly against elections and democracies and in favor of private armies. In other words, he is a complete libertarian lunatic. And his quote “stands on its own”, indeed. Complete nonsense. Fortunately, he has zero standing in German political discourse.

        • Hayne says:

Nice red herring fallacy. I still stand by his statement on its own. How’s that “German political discourse” doing now?

    • Sue Sonata Form says:

The season might begin with the refrain, “now is the winter of our discontent”.

  • can t any longer says:

This is nonsense. It’s not an ‘orchestra’, it’s a last-minute telephone ensemble of students and freelancers with a maximum of 2 rehearsals. They had a certain success in Mannheim because of prominent soloists and because they were able to organize a certain amount of money. It is neither an artistic success story nor a stable orchestra. Rather, this news is a sign that freelance ensembles will face a tough and severely restricted future.

    • Sue Sonata Form says:

      A red herring.

    • Watcher says:

      Word!
And this telephone-orchestra with its only want to be show off conductor (never a guest, ups) has only the the name Mannheim because the Mannheim insurance company (sponsor) think, this is an orchestra.
It‘s a big fake all this!

      • Hayne says:

So screw a freelance orchestra. Who gives a s**t?
I was long ago a freelancer and sympathize for them. If you’re a musician, shame on you for your callousness of fellow musicians!

Twohundred BILLION euros on Energiewende, and this is the result. Bravo, Germany.

    • MacroV says:

The problem isn’t the wind and solar; it’s the premature shutting of nuclear plants and, of course, Putin’s war. The real problem is they ever thought Russia could be a reliable energy supplier.

      • Hayne says:

Umm…Germany stupidly put the sanctions on Russia, not the other way around. I know they are puppets of the US but still…
BTW, the US blew up only 3 of 4 Nord stream pipelines. So much for efficient military. If Germany had any statesmen, they would lift sanctions to get energy flowing to HELP THEIR OWN PEOPLE!
