Curtis has the Dover Quartet, so Juilliard cannot be left out.

The Ivalas Quartet of the University of Michigan has been recruited to start residency next week. The members are: violinists Reuben Kebede and Tiani Butts, violist Aimée McAnulty and cellist Pedro Sánchez.

  • Gerry Feinsteen says:

The Graduate Quartet in Residence at Juilliard has hosted numerous quarters, including the Aeolus, Afiara, Attacca, Avalon, Biava, Calder, Cassatt, Chiara, Corigliano, Essex, Lark, Maia, Magellan (now renamed the Whitman String Quartet), Miró, St. Lawrence, and Shanghai quartets (from The Strad website).

This is not analogous to the Dover’s role at Curtis, which is not an apprenticeship role.

Does the Juilliard School not have the Juilliard String Quartet?????

    • Charlotte says:

It is probably the graduate quartet in residence. From their website: This program brings a qualified string quartet to be in residence at Juilliard and work with the Juilliard String Quartet.

  • Andy says:

This is the graduate quartet in residence, so they applied and were selected via audition by the Juilliard String Quartet. This is a program that’s existed for years at Juilliard, it’s not new – there is a new group every 2 years. The comparison to Dover/Curtis is not applicable.
