From the winning orchestra:

It‘s becoming classic of the summer tours: the match between musicians of the Divan Orchestra and the Vienna Philharmonic in Salzburg.
This is the fourth time we play together… and the fourth time the Viennese win

Divan needs new striker?

    The Empire strikes back!

VPO are like a battle ship.

A result of playing the Imperial March better than any other orchestra world-wide?

  • Anon. says:

    Or maybe it’s the coach/owner?

  • yodi says:

Anyone who has ever played a round of golf with a client or played basketball in a company tournament knows the unspoken rule: always let your client/boss win, if you want to get ahead in life.

(Reason why Trump thinks he’s such a great golfer and Obama thinks he’s such a great hoopster, believe me, that 25 year old who played varsity at university didn’t just miss that last shot because he choked.)

Here the power dynamics is obvious: every member of Divan would rather have a job in Vienna, so maybe it’s a good idea to let that 40 year old father of four outrun you at that last meter.

  • Gerry Feinsteen says:

Divan performed Smetana ‘From my homeland’ on a concert tour to Central Europe?
You know how those Austrians feel in the third largest party… FPÖ.

    • Viennois says:

The vast majority of FPÖ voters have never seen a concert hall from the inside.
Ma Vlast is very frequently performed in Vienna by both local and touring orchestras.

  • Franz1975 says:

If Barenboim coaches the team in the same tyrannical fashion he uses in rehearsals, the Wiener Philharmoniker will continue winning for a long time.

  • Gary Freer says:

    Herr Dreyer, Fergie style?
