Audiences not coming back?

What if we got them to take off their clothes? The musicians, too, of course.

That’s the Finnish way….

Is it the state of mind of Gallen Kallela and Sibelius about that like in the painting? Well maybe

Call me old-fashioned but I don’t think I’d really like to be put in the position of having that man in the photo play with his flute on top of me.

oh, ffs… next, they will only insist that young and beautiful people can play and attend these events….

    Don’t tell Yuja about this.

Simply stupid. That’s all. They could just simly skip the “unnecessary” music part.

    I hope nobody attends.

Isn’t it cold in Helsinki on All Saints weekend? And do the patrons take public transit in the buff to get to the performance?

How about just presenting great music that we haven’t heard too much and quit replaying the same, tired old crap?

Performing naked is not without its hazards! A string breaking on a cello could do untold damage to one’s person!

But it reminds me of the 1970s in London when the excellent Nederlands Dans Theater was giving a season at Sadler’s Wells in which one of the works was allegedly the world’s first nude ballet. The first night was packed. During the first scene one could make out naked figures on the dimily lit stage but unless one had fairly powerful opera glasses I cannot imagine there was much to see.

As the interval was supposed to end, it was possible to see activity on the stage floor and the front curtains occasionally moved around a bit. Clearly something was happening. Then someone from the theatre or the company came through the curtains to announce a delay while the stage was thoroughly mopped. Some thoughtless idiot had apparently thrown itching powder on to the stage.

And this all reminded me of Sir Robert Helpmann’s aphorism that the problem with nudity in a ballet is that a certain part of the body may not stop when the music stops!
