We hear that the Polish bass-baritone Tomasz Konieczny, who crashed out of last night’s Walküre, has recovered sufficiently to sing the opening night of Siegfried.

‘Tomasz Konieczny is on the road to recovery,’ the company says.

What was it Stanislavsky said about brandishing guns too early in the show?

    Great news and very pleasing for him. I am displaying my ignorance, but I did not know that Wotan used a 9mm automatic pistol? Looks more like Berg’s Lulu?

    Stanislavsky said, “hey, don’t brandish that gun too early in the show”.

    I think it was Chekhov in one of his early plays (I think Ivanov) who said “if a gun is shown or brandished in the first act, it must go off in the third act”

    I don’t recall any reference in Wagner’s text or any of the source material to a pistol of any kind, automatic or otherwise
