Deutsche Welle has posted a summer parade of female batons.

They include the actress Cate Blanchett.

Amazing who they have missed.

Watch here.

Anja Bihlmaier, one of the most brilliant German conductors of the moment, needs definitively to be added!!!

    • amazonian says:

Anja led the São Paulo SO in a fine concert a few weeks ago.
And Nathalie Stutzmann has been a regular guest at Sala São Paulo for the last ten years or so, first as the brilliant contralto she is and lately as a conductor too.
I hoped to find both on this list, and was disappointed to see Anja was missing.

  • Antwerp Smerle says:

Indeed! I was mightily impressed by Speranza Scappucci’s electrifying ‘Attila’ at Covent Garden last month. And where are Mirga and Marin?

  • Moonlight says:

Interesting list! Surprised they forgot Mirga. But glad for Anna! She’s extremely talented! Played with her this year. Felt like we were back in time when music was something more important than all these dance and looks…

  • Kevin Scott says:

Among the conductors they missed is the little-known Hortense von Gelmini, who is known to most Brucknerites for her intense recording of the unnumbered D minor Symphony with the Nuremberg Symphony on Colosseum Records:

Today she is best known as a writer and visual artist:

  • Concerto says:

That recording is wonderful, I am really blown away by it. I will check to see if I can actually obtain a copy of the CD of it. Those early symphonies need a special sort of approach and treatment. Unfortunately, Andris Nelsons recent DG cycle is a bit hit or miss, mostly miss (concerning those early symphonies).
