The German violist had an Israel Philharmonic audience in raptures when she played a marvellous new version of the 1970s Arik Einstein ballad Atur Mitzchech.

The song’s composer Yoni Rechter was in the audience.

And who’s that playing in the double-basses?

(Must be the music director.)

Here’s the original.

The concerts the orchestra during the last month of the current season were quite remarkable- Zimmermann played magnificent Walton Viola concerto as well as the Israeli composer Kopytman (“Cantus 5) and played the Viola part in Strauss’ Don Quixote together with an unforgettable cello playing of Kian Soltani -what a superb and sensitive artist he is!
Shani was at his best in Prokofiev 5th, Bernstein “Chichester psalms”, Stravinsky symphony of the psalms… and before his V Petrenko conducted ian outstanding Shostakovich 7th. The IPO is currently in a superb form.
