The violinist Nicola Benedetti, recently appointed director of the Edinburgh Festival, has been named Honorary President of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

Her duties include addressing graduating classes.

Benedetti, 34, holds nine honorary degrees, so that won’t be a problem.

As an admirer of Nicola Benedetti, and in the light of her subsequent numerous honorary degrees, I find it ironic that in her late teens she chose not to proceed with further formal music education in a college, university, or conservatoire.

“further formal music education in a college, university, or conservatoire.”

It’s because that kind of education has nothing to do with music.
That’s a total waste of time, was told that by my teacher, been there done that!

      Strange things.
How many honorary degrees did Oistrakh or Heifetz have?
She can’t light a candle to either, but that’s our modern stupid world – virtue signalling for you.

Believe me,she can light ten candles to both(i personally find Heifetz musically uninteresting, because he plays each composer the same. It´s all about his sound, not the music).Heard her live last week in Berlin playing Szymanowski 1st concerto. It was absolutely mind blowing. And her stylistic versatility is stunning. She can play baroque violin loke Rachel Podger or Fabio Biondi, and romantic virtuoso stuff like Perlman.I am glad to live in our modern”stupid” world, not in an old fart´s cloud cuckoo land. And im am a musician close to retirement now.I don´t dwell on the past.It was good for its time, but music evolves all the time, same as life..It´s just so much more manifold and exciting than 50 years ago.
