Ukrainian Freedom Orchestra to play at BBC Proms

The Ukrainian Freedom Orchestra will play at this summer’s BBC Proms.

The orchestra, led by Canadian-Ukrainian conductor Keri-Lynn Wilson, includes musicians who are now refugees and Ukrainian members of European orchestras. The Ukraine Ministry of Culture is granting a special exemption from fighting to male members of orchestras who are of military-age.

    Apparently the Cleveland Orchestra are playing Bruckner 9, The National Youth Orchestra of USA are doing Elgar Cello Concerto and Mahler 5, and the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester are doing Bruckner 7 with Blomstedt. Nothing confirmed yet, until tomorrow so it’s all a guess.

    Oh bty, the NYO USA are patronised by the Blavatnik Family Foundation; Leo Blavatnik – the UK’s ‘richest’ person and owns Warner Music, a £200 million property in Kensington and other connections…. over to you

    I’d say that was unlikely when you consider that no BBC orchestra played the Ukraine National Anthem.

    Funny how a while back Ms Wilson was not deemed of sufficient stature to conduct at Glyndebourne. When their Managing Director was one David Pickard, Now, whatever became of him…
