The Korean-Canadian conductor Earl Lee has been chosen as winner of the 2022 Sir Georg Solti Award.

He takes away $30,000 and a host of new connections.

Past winners include Gemma New, Cristian Macelaru, and Karina Cannelakis.

Lee, 39, is currently Assistant Conductor of the Boston Symphony. His family migrated to Toronto in 1995.

    Sorry, I just had a mental picture of his family flapping their wings in flock formation across the Pacific Ocean…

    Vanessa Benelli Mosell is more than deserving of winning a Solti award. She is truly a great conductor.

    Earl Lee made a strong impression with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra as resident conductor. There is no doubt of his qualifications.

    Vancouver, not Toronto. Went to the Vancouver Academy of Music with him – he was a cellist with an absolutely gorgeous tone back then.
