The Italian news agency ANSA reports that Cristina Mazzavillani Muti, married to the maestro, is taking two empty buses from Ravenna to Kyiv on Monday to rescue 60 chorus singers, dancers and technicians from the Kiev opera house, who are fleeing with family members.

Cristina is honorary president of the Ravenna Festival which in 2018 organized a friendship concert in Kyiv and did some filming in Mariupol.

    Thank you!!!fabulous operation.

  • Lothario Hunter says:

In the meantime, more than 4,500 miles to the West, in the second city, the Sublime Maestro is not at all disappointed to face an half empty hall in the first two concerts of his new residency. Not at all fretful at the prospect of Thielemann’s overpowering Brucker looming over his last, already doomed Russian farewell season. Rather, he’s been gleeful, enraptured during the entire week. Seemingly distracted, cynic observers ruefully comment, during rehearsals. Almost counting the hours separating him from his well deserved Friday post concert, or Saturday pre symphony ball “happy hours”. Some swear they heard him humming the catchy tune “Despacito” over and over ….

    • Maria says:

Not appropriate rant. We are talking here about Mrs Muti and her humanitarian efforts, and not her husband and his conducting career.

      • Monika Strugała says:

I never quite see when we have a heart-warming headline we must also have a cynical put-down. Can we ask what Lothario Hunter is doing for those involved in the crisis?

  • DG says:

Amazing. Please keep us updated on this story.

  • Robert von Bahr says:

    Brava, signora Muti, BRAVISSIMA!!!

  • Midwestern Violin says:

Cristina Mazzavillani is a wonderful and strong woman. I applaud and admire what she is doing. We used to see her at least once a year for a long period, her energy, elegance and good humor are remembered.

The most dignified decision she made was to not visit Chicago again. She should not like to deal with the Two-Face president, her Three-Face namesake, (blank!), the Northern Trust rep and prominent first chairs who kiss her hand but applaud you-know-who’s actions.

I personally miss her visits but I get it. Maybe one day I’ll go back to Europe and try to say hello.

  • Greg Bottini says:

    Good luck, Signora Muti.
It’s a brave and lovely thing you are doing.

  • Melania says:

It’s sure a welcomed attempt to help. Great. But I feel there is a plan behind ? Rescue the musicians and let them play cheaply or even unpaid at the Ravenna Festival? She and her husband Muti are very calculative. I know them both. Well, still a good Gest.

    • MD says:

Dear Ms Melania, I am happy to inform you that your fears can subside. A rescuer does not become an owner and the musicians will be free to do as they please. I understand that for anyone who never planned to be a rescuer these details might be difficult to grasp

    Bravo!!!

Why doesn’t she save busloads of refugees from south Shitcago?
