  • Helene Kamioner says:

    poor Baroness von Meck

    • pvl says:

Your are ignorant of the facts – the house belonged to Count Golitsin.
Von Meck owned an estate in a different and distant location.

      • Helene Kamioner says:

Padonne. I defer to your expertise in this area

      • Harold Edgar Bartko says:

Tchaikovsky wrote one of the most beautiful and sacred choral hymns ever written, and he wrote the hymn for the Russian Orthodox Church which he described being deeply moved by the liturgical worship of the Church.
“Hymn of the Cherubim” was finished in 1878 for the Russian Orthodox Church, which was approved by the Holy Synod. He shared his joy of this occasion and his devotion to the church with his dear friend, Patroness Nadezhda von Neck, who was likely a mistress, saying the celebration was
“altogether one of the happiest moments of my musical career.”

President Putin, who has attended the Russian Orthodox Church with his wife and family, would never have approved such destruction of a historical site.

        • Hugo Preuß says:

Nope. President Putin is content with just killing as many people as possible and make life a living hell for everyone else. But God forbid that any damage should harm a building important to Russian culture.

In 2018 the Children’s Music School in Trostyanets was renamed as the Children’s Music School. P.I. Tchaikovsky. and was decorated with a mural with a portrait of P. Tchaikovsky.
Obvious Tchaikovsky did not live here.

  • Stephen Lawrence says:

Like the guy said, like the the looted palaces surrounding St. Petersburg: “it will be rebuilt”

    • Jean says:

Even if so, the original will be forever lost, thanks to Mr. P**** (who cares so much about Russian ‘cultural values’ and everything…)

      A tragedy

  • msc says:

That is sad news. Given that Tchaikovsky was homosexual, the Putinistas probably don’t care.

    • Brettermeier says:

“That is sad news. Given that Tchaikovsky was homosexual, the Putinistas probably don’t care.”

Do you really want to imply that they distinguish between targets? Because they don’t.

      • Donald Wiedmeyer says:

Given the choice between a straight man against the war, and a gay man against the war, I think I know which a soldier would shoot.

  • Corno di Caccia says:

This is so very sad. Buildings can be rebuilt but the original memories contained within the walls can never return. Pity the poor people of this country. This madman has to be stopped. Like so many, Tchaikovsky suffered at the hands of Soviet powers; his music must live on.

  • Ian Ross says:

Was just listening to Serenade for Strings and comparing the greatness of Russian culture with what is happening in Ukraine now when I immediately saw this post. The new Barbarians have truely taken over.

    • Kathleen E King says:

Sadly, they are the same old “barbarians” in reality. Those who worship power, nearly uniformly male power figures, and feel entitled to compel others to that person’s will. Until men learn to be truly powerful, one must lead by personal example and ideals, we are going to see these same things.

  • pvl says:

There is or was NO “Tchaikovsky house” there. Enough of spreading fakes.

    • C’mon says:

Dude, there is literally Tchaikovsky face on the building. Are you blind?

    • Brettermeier says:

There was never a person called “Tchaikovsky”. The Russians didn’t destroy the house. Define “house”. The house deserved it. The Ukrainians destroyed the house. It was staged by the CIA. It was a fake house. The Ukrainians did it. There was never a person called “Tchaikovsky”.

    • Joukahainen says:

New phase in Russian denials? “Tchaikovsky was never in Ukraine” ? 😀 😀

Level 2: “Tchaikovsky never wrote those pieces”.

      You guys are incredible, really

  • Tim says:

Another travesty, though I care more about the people who are being injured and killed than the buildings.

    • Dima says:

“Obvious”? — I’m not too sure about that:

If you look at the map, the children’s school (“Budonyk kultury”) is located at the Tchaikovsky Park — part of the same building complex together with the palace and the museums:

Tchaikovsky’s statue is also on the park.

If you know the exact room where Tchaikovsky stayed, please let me know.
