Friends have reported the death, in her 60s, of the American cellist Zela Terry, solo cellist of the Orchestre Philharmonique de Nice.

No cause has been given.
Zela joined the the Pittsburgh Symphony with Andre Previn in 1977. Two years later, she was recruited by the New York Philharmonic under Zubin Mehta.
Moving to Europe in the 198os, she played with the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra before joining Nice as ‘Violoncelle Supersoliste’ in 1990.

    Oh dear. Much too young. I knew Zela off and on in New York for years. So sad. I am shocked.

    She was a friend from the late 80’s to the early 90’s. I would check on her performances and successes periodically. I missed her. So sad and sorry to read this. Too young. My condolences to her family.

    So sad. Zela and I were close friends in Nice 1998-2005 and stayed in touch after I left France. Such a loss.
