Zimmer, 64, appeared in a Berlin press conference yesterday with Oleksandr Lysiuk, tour manager of the Odessa Opera Orchestra.

Zimmer said: ‘This orchestra is precious… (we need to show) that art and artists are there to bring peace to this world’.

The musicians are presently rehearsing in Berlin. Zimmer won an Oscar for The Lion King and is presently nominated for Dune.

The tour starts Friday in Hamburg, moving on to Stuttgart and Cologne.

  • Herr Doktor says:

I’m a huge fan of Hans Zimmer’s film scores. To my ears, he is the best creator of film music currently active. His score to Dune was STUNNING.

But to be sure, Zimmer has not had the same influence as John Williams, whose achievements are so great that no less a talent than Richard Wagner continuously ripped off Williams’ ideas and style when he wrote the music to his operas. Could The Ring have even been possible without the ground broken by John Williams?

  • Hans Zimmer… the film composer who doesn’t read music… is rehearsing an orchestra?

    • Tichy says:

There is not much to rehears, I guess. His favourite key is D minor, there are rare occations for harmonic progressions and the compositions are generally very minimalistic, but produced in a maximalistic way. So the musicians just have to play very loud 😀
Just kidding, at least it brings some joy to people.

  • El Cid says:

Hope there no Nazis in that orchestra.

  • Klaus Reinhart says:

(O-Ton jeweils in bestem sächsischen Idiom)-
