The government of Cyprus has authorised an expansion of the symphony orchestra from 45 musicians to 65.

As part of the initiative, the veteran Austrian Günter Neuhold has been appointed music director.

He’s former chief in Parma, Antwerp, Karlsruhe and Bilbao.

    Will someone please explain conductor wardrobe to me? How long since we have seen one wearing a tuxedo? And where do they get these tunics or whatever you would call them? I’ve never seen them in stores.

    Glad to see an orchestra these days that’s being expanded rather than reduced or “merged” with another one to cut costs. Hasn’t happened eg in Germany in many years IIRC.
    Neuhold is an old-fashioned “Kapellmeister”, just what an orchestra needs to build.
