Members of the Queensland Symphont Orchestra are recording the only extant work by Kyan Pennell, a 12 year-old boy who died tragically a few days ago when he was trapped between a trailer and a gate on the family’s property near Gympie.

His grieving mother Amanda Brierley posted a page of score on social media and reached out to orchestra musicians. Their recording will be played at Kyan’s funeral.

‘The thing that has given us some little part of Kyan to hold onto is when I found this composition he was working on in the middle of a blank exercise book,’ Amanda told ABC Radio Brisbane.

This is such a tragic story. How wonderful that the Queensland Orchestra are performing Kyan’s piece. Is there anyway it can be heard online? Thoughts must go to the boy’s family and friends at this very sad time. Thank you for sharing this story, Norman.
