The death has been comunicated of Álvaro Manzano, Principal Conductor of the National Symphony Orchestra of Ecuador from 1985 to 2001.

He was also Music Director of the National Symphony Orchestra of the Dominican Republic

  • Very sad news — I had the good fortune of playing with the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional del Ecuador twice under his direction (back in the mid-1990’s). Did not know that he was two or three years younger than I.

    It was always a pleasure to work with him. I remember him as a very calm, incredibly competent man and musician who was totally devoted to his art, and he was very easy to work with. At first I found him a little reserved, but later found out that he had a very good sense of humor underneath the outer shell.
