Carnegie Hall debut for Arab-Jewish chamber orchestra

Israel’s first professional orchestra of Arab and Jewish musicians will make its first US appearance on March 18 at Carnegie Hall.

The Galilee Chamber Orchestra, with artistic director, Saleem Ashkar, will give the annual Isaac Stern Memorial Concert, with Joshua Bell as soloist.

The concert will be aired on WQXR’s Carnegie Hall Live series.

HAYDN: Symphony No. 59, “Fire”
BRUCH: Violin Concerto No. 1 (with Joshua Bell, violin)
KARIM AL-ZAND: Luctus Profugis (2016; NY premiere)
BEETHOVEN: Symphony No. 1

    Nobody ever mentions the Ulster Orchestra, which had both Catholic and Protestant musicians at its inception over sixty years ago. I suppose it isn’t fashionable enough. It has provided a service to the community of Northern Ireland for over sixty five years.
