19 jump-ins save last night’s Vienna opera

We’re hearing that last night’s Peter Grimes was almost called off after 19 members of the Vienna State Opera chorus tested positive for Covid.

The night was saved by members of the city’s Arnold Schönberg Chor who volunteered to sing at very short notice.

    This large-scale jump-in was helped very much by the fact that the excellent Arnold Schoenberg Choir had recently sung Peter Grimes just down the road at Theater an der Wien – so they all presumably knew the score, literally, by heart.

    I go every other year to Berlin. Even with the plane ticket it’s more affordable than the met. Only the most egregious of eurotrash productions bothers me now
