San Francisco Opera has named John Keene as head of its chorus, starting next month.

He succeeds Ian Robertson who retired after 35 years.

Keene is presently head of music staff and chorus master at Seattle Opera, having previously worked at Florida Grand Opera.

He is a popular figure, hailed by the soprano Lisette Oropesa as a principal mentor.
