Amateuristic….. and terrible piano toucher technique (much too much muscle tension). Mahler did not have ‘a style’ that could easily be imitated, and the video shows a generic romantic style, as if it consists merely of a number of tricks. But birthday party members will be happy.
I found the pseudo-German Anweisungen hilarious – and actually did recognise some Mahlerian phrases, including a whiff of the Ewig motif. But overall, yes, not Mahler in any real sense. Borge’s Mozart Happy Birthday beats this by several miles.
