Favourite Vienna actress dies in house fire
NewsThe exceptional stage actress Gertraud Jesserer has died in an apartment fire in Vienna’s 9th district. She was four days short of 78 years old.
A pillar of the Burgtheater from 1973, Jesserer covered Shakespeare and Schnitzler, Hoffmanstahl, Brecht and Chekhov with equal aplomb. She made numerous films and much TV, retiring in 2012.
