The Vienna Staatsoper and Salzburg Easter Festival have decided to co-produce next Easter’s Lohengrin, to be shown in Vienna in 2023/4.

Apart from saving costs, this sounds like the dawn of a new alliance between Salzburg’s Nikolaus Bachler and Vienna’s Bogdan Roscic.

As far as casting goes, Christian Thielemann will conduct and Jossi Wieler and Sergio Morabito will co-direct.

Vienna has had two atrocious Lohengrin productions in a row (Kosky and currently Homoki). No doubt that Wieler and Morabito will continue in the same line of mistreatment of the work and hideous visuals, it’s very much their trademark.
Roscic is obviously going full Regie. I hope he goes quickly, before he can saddle the Staatsoper with too many trashy productions that the public has to endure for years and years.

I’d rather not know what happens after that photo.

    Mir schwant nichts Gutes.

  • M McAlpine says:

From the photo it sure looks as if they are cutting costs – things like costume and scenery. If the public has any sense it will cut its costs and not bother with the tripe offered.
