The Portuguese pianist will resume her concert career next week, having recovered from a bad fall and hospitalisation in Riga two months ago.

Physiotherapy helped, she says.

She returns to the stage in France on November 13.

So good to have her back.

  • Ya what says:

Word on the grapevine was that over lockdown she was giving online piano lessons at an extortionate €300 per hour!!

    • YP34 says:

You are not aware I assume that Leon Fleischer sitting in Baltimore was charging a double amount.

      • Ya what says:

        Oh how awful.

“I care about the next generation of musicians and want to help nurture them, and I care about the music” and all that codswallop.

If you really care about the younger generation and you really care about the music then you wouldn’t charge that amount. Simples.

I hope they lose a lot of it through paying tax – I’m sure they’re declaring this income truthfully and in full (ahem).

        • Sue Sonata Form says:

This is a comment is sadly representative of the modern Left in general, though many people of all political stripes wouldn’t say a thing like this if their lives depended on it.

        • Patrick Gillot says:

          300$ per hour , but it’s a steal!

          • Ya what says:

Yes, quite a literally a steal indeed.

          • Mark Mortimer says:

Quite right Ya what. Pires is a fine pianist- frequently excellent- but nobody should be charging that amount for teaching. Its pure greed plain & simple. If Pires wants to earn big bucks- she should return to performing & find the right agent. Ok teachers must learn a living also but there’s a difference between that and a ‘steal’ as you say.

    This is such good news.
    Thank you.

  • Schoenberglover says:

Fantastic news! Really hope this great artist will make it to her 3 x London concerto appearances (!!) between May & July next year with Blomstedt/Philharmonia & JEG/LSO

  • Gerry Feinsteen says:

Good for her, but I had been under the impression she had retired at least once in the past five years.
