At an evening of zarazuelas that was supposed to be his Vienna farewell, the 80 year-old singer said he was available for further bookings.

Der Standard reports: ‘Domingo let it be known in advance that he no longer wants to say goodbye. He will continue to be available to the State Opera if their and his plans allow it.’

Will he ever sing JS Bach’s ‘ich habe genug’?

One day, he will appear as a hologram in a custom-built arena at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, London, with a youthful tenor voice singing the “Seelige Morgentraum-Deutweise”, his Spanish accent eliminated with the help of artificial intelligence and deep machine learning based on recordings of Rene Kollo.

    One word… “SAD”!

  • Achim Mentzel says:

His only plan should be retiring from stage, which he should have done years ago.

There is no cure for what ails him.

    Oh, joy.

The audience though was delighted and he got a ten-minute ovation.

He has gone off the rails for a quite a long time now. Otherwise he remains one of the opera giants ( no matter how ridiculous he gets in this twilight of his life and of his career).

  • BRUCEB says:

Well, nobody is forcing venues to keep booking him, and nobody is forcing people to buy tickets, so… *shrug*

At this point I feel like it’s a music-history trivia contest: oh, you saw him when he was 79? Well, I saw him when he was 80! So there!”

  • Barry Guerrero says:

The man wants to work. Thank goodness somebody wants to. People who object don’t have to go.

  • Sue Sonata Form says:

It’s sad when an artist becomes super needy like this. Anybody past their sell-by date, really.

  • Michael McGrath says:

    Your photo says it all!!!!

    • Ingrid says:

The foto doesn‘t say anything, because it is in no connection with the Viennese performances. Why do I know it? Because in the operahouse – no microphones. So simple.

  • Tamino says:

    what is happening?
Is the debt his son caused by his fatal entanglement to scientology so stellar, that papa has to keep making money no matter what?
Does Scientology have him by the cojones with compromising proof of sexual assaults, so telling him to keep generating revenue for them?
Clearly he should have made enough dough to retire honorably and gracefully, if it wasn‘t for some huge continuous leak in his finances?
    Sad, tragic even.
