Peruvian and Russian win Domingo’s Operalia

Ivan Ayon-Rivas, a tenor from Peru, and the Russian mezzo Victoria Karkacheva were declared joint winners of the latest Operalia competition in Moscow.

The other placings were:
Second Prize
Mané Galoyan, soprano, Armenia
Bekhzod Davronov, tenor, Uzbekistan
Jonah Hoskins, tenor, USA

Third Prize
Emily Pogorelc, soprano, USA
Dmitry Cheblykov, baritone, Russia
Jusung Park, bass-baritone, South Korea

There was little media coverage outside Russia.

The Peruvian is due to sing Malcolm in La Scala’s seasons opener of Verdi’s Macbeth.

    Does “the Russian Mezzo” have a name? Couldn’t we be a little more repectful or did I just miss it?

    An exceptionally strong group of 8 winners. One could argue that Mane Galoyan should have won first prize but they are all wonderful.

    So there is a Russian and a Peruvian but the Peruvian is the one who is called Ivan?
