A definitive document from the old days in the workers’ paradise.

  • Gerry Feinsteen says:

This level of excellence has not been met or surpassed and will likely never be seen again (certainly not in Russia at this rate!).
The later Soviet school went downhill, but those early decades: nonpareil.
I would be curious to see a video of students at the Curtis from this time.

  • Piano Lover says:

    1945:war ended.Music education takes over.
    Good thing!

  • PS says:

Their whole YouTube channel looks interesting, thanks. And speaking of YouTube, DW Classical Music is about to stream a Beethoven Mass along with some… sacred electronica?

  • Nijinsky says:

Is the girl playing Liszt Mephisto Waltz (starts at about 27 minutes into the video) Aliza Kezeradze, the yet to be teacher and wife of Ivo Pogorelich? I don’t know, but it looks like it could be her from pictures with Ivo much later in her life.

  • Judith says:

Just amazing even though I have minimal Russian! What year is this?

  • Sue Sonata Form says:

Their dissident composers could write in their favourite key in Siberia: A Salt Miner.

Yes, a real paradise in Russia.
